Quote of the week!

Frommmmmmmm a couple weeks ago. Oops.

N, wrt her students: They don't listen to me because I'm not French. *thinks* Or a man.

Hehehe.

In other news, I am compiling mixes. It is great fun. And a great procrastination tool. I think I may try and designate one day a week for the posting of a mix, or perhaps a mini-mix, or even just briefly discussing a song or an artist, or the music in a show or a movie. Not that I am in any way qualified to do this, I just think it's fun. I'm also pondering the possibility of making one day a literary day, for the posting of poems, book excerpts, or quotes from wherever (just about anything performed or written, I feel, should be fair game).
Yup.

Cool!

So, I was watching House, and searching for random stuff from the show on wikipedia, and I found this ) under the entry for absolute pitch. SO cool. I kind of wonder what they mean by "European" (Indo-European, do you mean? I find this odd) languages, but the idea in general makes sense and I think it rocks. That is all :)

I couldn't resist

So, I played around with that band name/album name thing, where you click for a random article from wikipedia to get your band name and album title, and I suppose you could keep clicking for track names, but I got one that was happy-making:

Band Name: Museum of the Portuguese Language
Album Title: Sonic Screwdriver

How much does that rock? I would say that rocks a lot. Probably in an Indie sort of way. I didn't know there was a museum of the Portuguese Language. But 'Sonic Screwdriver' kind of makes my night.

Ooo!

Responding to (and stealing) Court's meme:

Things I Want To Know:

Who do you support for the presidential primaries/election, and why?

What do you do to take care of your skin?

How often do you get your hair cut, and by whom? How much do you or would you spend on a haircut?

Do you think prostitution should be legal? Marijuana? Handguns?

If you were going to plant an indoor garden, what would you grow?

What section of the newspaper do you read first?

What's your favorite thing to order in?

What's your favorite/standby drink to order when you go out?

Do you let your animals (hypothetically if you don't have any) sleep with you?

What are three things you do to take care of the environment?

personality tests

For a two-question test, not so bad. I feel like most of this is true, most of the time. I actually read a book on the Enneagram while staying with my cousins/aunt/uncle for a few weeks. It was my uncle's book, pretty interesting. I was a 'five' then, as well. I think I like personality tests because they categorize and explain... they are very tempting procrastination tool. Now! Back to work!

5 - the Observer
Thanks for taking the test !
you chose BZ - your Enneagram type is FIVE (aka "The Thinker").

"I need to understand the world"

Observers have a need for knowledge and are introverted, curious, analytical,
and insightful.

How to Get Along with Me

  • Be independent, not clingy.

  • Speak in a straightforward and brief manner.

  • I need time alone to process my feelings and thoughts.

  • Remember that If I seem aloof, distant, or arrogant, it may be that
    I am feeling uncomfortable.

  • Make me feel welcome, but not too intensely, or I might doubt your
    sincerity.

  • If I become irritated when I have to repeat things, it may be because
it was such an effort to get my thoughts out in the first place.

  • don't come on like a bulldozer.

  • Help me to avoid my pet peeves: big parties, other people's loud music,
overdone emotions, and intrusions on my privacy.

What I Like About Being a FIVE

  • standing back and viewing life objectively

  • coming to a thorough understanding; perceiving causes and effects

  • my sense of integrity: doing what I think is right and not being influenced by social pressure

  • not being caught up in material possessions and status

  • being calm in a crisis

What's Hard About Being a FIVE

  • being slow to put my knowledge and insights out in the world

  • feeling bad when I act defensive or like a know-it-all

  • being pressured to be with people when I don't want to be

  • watching others with better social skills, but less intelligence or
    technical skill, do better professionally

FIVEs as Children Often

  • spend a lot of time alone reading, making collections, and so on

  • have a few special friends rather than many

  • are very bright and curious and do well in school

  • have independent minds and often question their parents and teachers

  • watch events from a detached point of view, gathering information

  • assume a poker face in order not to look afraid

  • are sensitive; avoid interpersonal conflict

  • feel intruded upon and controlled and/or ignored and neglected

FIVEs as Parents

  • are often kind, perceptive, and devoted

  • are sometimes authoritarian and demanding

  • may expect more intellectual achievement than is developmentally appropriate

  • may be intolerant of their children expressing strong emotions

This test tracked 2 variables. How the score compared to the other people's:
Higher than 99% on ABC
Higher than 99% on XYZ

Oh Yeah, I remember doing that…

Apparently there is a song in my iTunes Library that I titled “Holy Melodrama, Batman”. At first I thought, “What? What is that?” and then I clicked on it and realized that I named it that because it is indeed extremely melodramatic but was from a mixed cd from a friend and I couldn’t remember the actual title, but I didn’t want to leave it as “Track 16”, so I gave it a name. I think this is a sign that I shouldn’t try to tidy up my music library without internet access.

Also, on a separate but related note, I also have a song titled KILL ME NOW. It is that horrid Laffy Taffy rap song where I think Laffy Taffy is supposed to refer to a woman’s ass, but then I’m not really sure. The reason I have it is that my 11 year-old brother has been allowed access to music he shouldn’t be listening to (does he have an actual iTunes account? I must find this out…) and burned me a cd with a truly varied mix of awful/inappropriate/actually-not-bad music. My goodness. What what what.

Also also, roasted chestnuts are the win.

And finally, a stray recurring thought:
I want to take a computer class. And by calling it a ‘computer class’, I’m sure you can tell that I am in dire need of technological instruction. Basically, I’m sick of not knowing what I’m doing when I use a computer. Or the internet. I would like to learn at least a little about html. Maybe I could look at HTML for Dummies.

Thoughts?

Aie...

Worried:

TFL Injury Related

I have no idea if my legs are different lengths. I don't think they are. I don't know. But "often leading to hip joint replacement"? No. No no. *Is newly determined to continue with seemingly non-helpful PT exercises*

Ooo!

They play this song all the freakin time here. I like it, though, so that's ok. Also, she's pretty smokin', in my opinion. Kind of a weird dancer, but I will give that she's supposed to be on a ledge however many feet above the ground which would somewhat restrict movement. Still. I like.

Off to take a practice GRE...

wish me luck!
