6 Lesbians and a U-Haul

So, I said I'd post this a while ago. Here's my "6 Lesbians and a U-Haul" mix from summer 2006 and our awesome house party, except I have changed it to be even more fantabulous. Vive la big gay house. Even if three of us were only bi-sexual, it was still pretty darn gay.

For A and Court especially:

Song - Artist:
1 Got to Give it Up - Marvin Gaye
2 Beijing - Melissa Ferrick
3 That Lonesome Road - Madeleine Peyroux
4 Enemy - Lina

6 Alright - Kinnie Starr
7 Girl from Ipanema - Astrud Gilberto etc. (not sure of the specific version)
8 Heaven Over Everyone - Iron and Wine
9 Your Woman - White Town
10 Hope - Fat Freddy's Drop (The Hope for a Generation version, not from Based on a True Story)
11 Freddie Freeloader - Miles Davis

20 The Other Side - Melissa Ferrick
21 Umbrella - Scott Simons
22 World Looking In - Morcheeba
23 In the Waiting Line - Zero7
24 Carey - Joni Mitchell
25 Ernie - Fat Freddy's Drop

35 Take Five - Dave Brubeck Quartet
36 Dance Me to the End of Love - Madeleine Peyroux
37 Goodnight and Go - Imogen Heap

Not sure about the ordering. Usually I listen to it on shuffle. I'll have to see if the ordering I gave you is any good. Wheee, nearly three hours of listening fun.

Hm. I am starting a thing. Meme. Thing.
Tell me five songs you are always in the mood for, or that have special significance for you and why. Hrm...

Mine are here: )

Technical Difficulties

Why is it that I seem to break all of my online applications? The one for Berkeley keeps telling me that I have an error in the section for my personal statements, but then when I click on it to fix the error, it just takes me to another page that says the error has been noted and will be reviewed by some technical team. WTF? This entire process has been such a pain in the ass. I mean, it could definitely have been worse, but, this sucks. Gah!!

On another note, I am listening to a song that, the first time I heard, made me laugh because I thought it was completely ridiculous. At the moment I am in deep, deep like. It is Timbaland's "Oh Timbaland", and it uses Nina Simone's oh sinnerman, but adds a rap element, and some interesting percussion, and other ... stuff. And I like it.

oooooo....

Am obsessed with this song at the moment, and I have NO idea why.

Except, that, you know, it's pretty. And catchy.

The pretty on youtube.

Also listening to:

Feist's Mushaboom, the title of which kind of sucks, but I like the song. Hmmm, also by Feist, My Moon My Man.

And, a cover of Rihanna's Umbrella by Scott Simons because of this lovely mcsheppy sga vid by [info]spacedmonkey.

And random Muse videos on youtube...

God this is such a weird mix.

It's a hand!

"Under the Table and Dreaming"

I've forgotten how much I like the Dave Matthews Band. I know some of you really don't like DMB, so I won't say a lot. But I'm listening to Satellite from "Under the Table and Dreaming" and it just ... love. It's so easy, and lazy but slow and careful, and beautiful.

This morning was listening to a lot of angst in the form of:
Muse:
- Muscle Museum
- Bliss
- Supermassive Black Hole

Smashing Pumpkins:
- Eye

Coldplay:
- Daylight
- The Hardest Part

Amy Winehouse (I know, I know, I don't like her, but this song is so freaking catchy):
- You Know I'm No Good

Dr. John:
- Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya

Sia:
- Breathe Me

I could go on, but I'll stop now. Seriously. I have a playlist called "angst much?" because there's just so much angsty music out there. Granted, songs can be very angsty in very different ways - I've been considering forming sub-playlists that categorize into brands of angst...

But yes. The point is that "Satellite" was a really nice break for me. I'm going to go listen to it again now. :)

ETA: Bizarre Things I Have Seen Today

1) Box on a Baby! Seriously. There was a mom (I'm assuming) pushing her stroller (or pram, or perambulator, depending on where you are from) with baby inside. On top of the baby there was a box. A box of some sort of mail. ON the baby. What?

2) Dog(s) in the Bar St. Jacques barking at a fur coat. The dogs were already inside the bar, and then a woman wearing a ginormous fur coat walks in. She puts her coat down, and the dogs go nuts. At first I thought they were barking at her, but no. They were barking at the fur coat. Ha!

3) Man sitting next to me, leaning over to read my computer. Goodness. I hope he can't read English. I don't mind, it's just funny :)

Beautiful Lyrics

From the middle/end of "On the Radio" by Regina Spektor:

This is how it works
You're young until you're not
You love until you don't
You try until you can't
You laugh until you cry
You cry until you laugh
And everyone must breathe
Until their dying breath

No, this is how it works
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some-
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again

I love this description of life/love. It's real, and honest, and described in a beautiful way. Yay.
