Huh --- Caution - if you have not seen the Fountain and don't want it spoiled, don't read
I saw "The Fountain" today. I don't know exactly what I think. As a piece of artwork, it was breathtakingly beautiful. really really really. As a cohesive and understandable story? I dunno. There are a couple of things that aren't adding up for me. Like the differences between Queen Isabella and Izzi? Why does the first send Tomas to look for the tree of life? I thought her character was supposed to be constant, unchanging, but that inconsistency confused me. I guess without her having done that, it would have been difficult to get that first story... hmph. Also, the second does struggle, and then reaches a point beyond fear... but the Queen? And I want to think more about how the tree and the voice/images relate to those two. Also, is difficult to decide what was remembered by Tom, and what was shoved at him by the third incarnation of Izzi... also, huh...
Tomas - Tommy - Tom
Isabella - Izzi - Is
I can't remember if that last incarnation was named, but I like this progression for her - movie deals with life and dying, and acceptance and creation and rebirth. It seems fitting that her name more or less turns into an idea of presence or existence.
Also still thinking about the actions of Tom, and what happens during his last meditation.
I think I need to see it again.
oi.
:)
Otherwise? Things are good. I finished the thesis, they liked it, I am happy. I need to get the ball rolling again now. Lots to do. And I don't really feel like doing it, but it needs to get done. I am so ready for grad school, and being able to focus on one thing at a time...
Tomorrow I need to act without thinking. I always overthink, and it eats my time. It is the point in the semester where shit just needs to get done already.
"Perfection is the enemy of the possible"!
Sweet dreams all. -B
OOooh, also also -- the last name Creo, for their second incarnations? I wonder what he meant by that? Or if it's just open for interpretation? I thought of French (duh) Creer, to create, but Kate thought of Spanish 'to believe', and that works for French, too, Croire ... Right now, I think both interpretations, belief and creation, are necessary and significant.
