Thesis crack

Ack. I can have 30 pages by tomorrow at noon, right? Right. Cool beans.

I am in the llc working on my second thesis draft. I'm trying to write in chapters, or sections, so that it doesn't feel so overwhelming. So far, I think it's working, which is awesome. I don't think I will be getting much sleep tonight, though. ew. Anyway, I was typing, and I meant to type Aginsky but I wasn't paying attention and accidentally typed Vigotsky. I think my subconscious mind is more clever than I am. Doesn't that suck? Unwitting moments of brilliance... What a perfectly selected substitution! Then again, I don't know how many ****-sky's I've come across, so, maybe not clever so much as lack of input variety. In which case, both conscious and sub-conscious are equally stupid. hehehe.

I can't wait to get home for thanksgiving (though it sucks that it takes 17 hours to drive there - I love driving, but 17 straight hours can get a little boring), and hug and cuddle the brothers and run with the dog and go to the java house and cook in a real kitchen and shower in a real shower without shower shoes and stuff. I'm so eloquent, I know.

Also! This is me eating my words: Apparently, tone is conventionally described using the numbering system in the source that I found, except for African languages, which use diacritics. I like diacritics, but that's probably just because I saw them first, and so they make more sense to me. Anyway, so neither source is necessarily wrong, which is both great and horrible:

Great: I don't have to abandon my original data for new stuff on crack.
I now have a very robust sampling of data, from presumably more than one dialect.
Having a data set with more than two tone levels will allow me to show that the framework I am using can handle more than two levels, which it has to be able to do if it is to be taken seriously at all. Cool.

Horrible: You mean I have to come up with another analysis?!?
Another analysis that has 4 tone levels?!?!?!?
Just how do I build a grid that can show four different levels of tone???????????????
gah. grrr. shit.

So, I am now off to git'r done. hott.

kisses - B
