Responding to (and stealing) Court's meme:

Things I Want To Know:

Who do you support for the presidential primaries/election, and why?

What do you do to take care of your skin?

How often do you get your hair cut, and by whom? How much do you or would you spend on a haircut?

Do you think prostitution should be legal? Marijuana? Handguns?

If you were going to plant an indoor garden, what would you grow?

What section of the newspaper do you read first?

What's your favorite thing to order in?

What's your favorite/standby drink to order when you go out?

Do you let your animals (hypothetically if you don't have any) sleep with you?

What are three things you do to take care of the environment?

1)Who do you support for the presidential primaries/election, and why?

Well. I sort of wish I had paid/were paying better attention, but, as I am currently living outside the U.S., my opinion doesn't really count so I didn't take the time to form a solid one. With caucuses (I'm registered in Iowa, where my family lives. It's my permanent address until I get an actual "permanent" address of my very own) you have to be physically there, which was obviously not workable for me. This was a problem even at Bryn Mawr, during the 2004 election, which was only a few hours by plane away from home, but it just didn't seem worth it to fly back for a caucus, one (really really expensive) vote that probably wouldn't have made a bit of difference. Normally I HATE this type of thinking, especially when you've got nothing to lose, but in this case I really had to weigh my options. No matter where I end up in 2008, though, I'm doing an Absentee ballot for the general election. Rough opinion as to caucuses, hmmm. I like Obama. I like Clinton, but she strikes me as a bit more insincere. But, then again, she does have more experience, and she's proven her ... resilience, I guess. Which is impressive. I remember liking Kucinich the last time through, and I still like him, despite the UFO thing, but it's going to come down to Clinton or Obama. And I will support either one in the presidential election. Huckabee kind of frightens me, a lot. Go Iowa. I am so lucky we lived near the University. Maybe I'll teach about American politics tomorrow in class, see what young French adults think about us?

(2) What do you do to take care of your skin?

Wow. That question is so much less anxiety-inducing. I have temperamental skin, but it's been better since I've used Cetaphil, which is a soap-free cleanser that doesn't completely strip me of moisture. I also use a hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, fragrance/"stuff" free moisturizer - Purpose lotion, SPF 15. It is good. I also try to drink lots of water. Bare Escentuals stuff = teh win, and I use their skin revver-upper with salicylic acid, which makes my face really soft, and their Bare Minerals face powder, but it makes my face itch if I get too hot. A definite no-no for working out, but then one's face should be makeup-less anyway. Why are my answers so long? Crap.

(3) How often do you get your hair cut, and by whom? How much do you or would you spend on a haircut?

Whenever it needs it? It's been, um, 5 and a half months? No split ends. I take good care of it. I get it cut at a styling school at home, for 10 bucks. I've never had a bad cut there. I've had it cut for free twice, which was fun, and buzzed twice (three times, if you count that one re-buzz). I love having a buzzed head, it is the most liberating appearance-related thing I've done, and it looks good, but growing it out is a bitch so I'm not going to do it again, at least for a while. The in between stage does not make me happy. I don't know how much I'd pay. Here, so far, I've been unwilling to shell out a relatively inexpensive 16 Euros (student rate), but, then, the hair's not looking horrendous yet. We'll see if I cave.

(4)Do you think prostitution should be legal? Marijuana? Handguns?
- Yes, with stringent regulations. Oldest profession, people will continue to do it anyway, at least if it's legal they are better protected. Nevada, New Zealand, not sure where else this has already been done.
- Yes. Again, people are gonna do it anyway, and I think the potential harm that could result from use is at most comparable to cigarettes, or alcohol, which are legal. I just, I feel like there are bigger issues for us to deal with than weed. Then again, I've never really smoked it, so I don't have first-hand experience to draw from.
- Yes. I don't like them, but I don't think there should be legislation banning them. Apparently I don't like bans. Background checks, yes. And I would definitely support a handgun-free existence, but, that will never happen. I'd like to hear what the wifey has to say on this one, she has her gun license.

(5) If you were going to plant an indoor garden, what would you grow?

I tend to kill indoor plants. Bamboo's still alive. Um. Herbs? Those are useful, and yummy. I want an outside garden with a curly willow. And a fig tree.
ETA: Ah! You know Mr. Grey's garden from "Secretary"? That one. I like it.

(6) What section of the newspaper do you read first?

I don't read the newspaper. At Bryn Mawr, I read the Science section of the NYT every Tuesday. And I read it online sometimes. I read the BBC online (yeah homepage!), whatever first catches my eye. Usually the top story, since it's huge and in the middle.

(7) What's your favorite thing to order in?

Duh, vegan chinese. Court's fault. Oh my god I miss Kingdom of Vegetarians... Hmm. Or maybe Indian. Yum, curry.

(8) What's your favorite/standby drink to order when you go out?

Here? Wine. Or Belgian beer. Currently seeing how I feel about whiskey on the rocks.

(9) Do you let your animals (hypothetically if you don't have any) sleep with you?

Yes. Puppy! At times, when I am home, I have both cats and the dog on my bed, and it's lovely, except when they decide my legs don't actually need any space. I love it. I'm more of a dog person. Big dogs. Not usually a fan of little dogs. Having a dog is important for my physical and mental well-being, I have decided.

(10) What are three things you do to take care of the environment?

Oh, wow, I should be doing more. Um. I recycle. I ... turn the lights off when I'm not using them. I ... usually don't eat meat - I haven't bought it in stores or restaurants in two years, but I did recently eat wild boar, cause, well, I was a guest, and honestly, how often do you get a chance to eat wild boar? Besides, it actually was wild, they accidentally hit it with their car, and decided it was in fine shape for cooking/eating. I thought it was hilarious.
Another funny but true story? My grandmother keeps a bucket with her in the shower to catch excess water, which she uses in her garden. Seriously, awesome.

The end.

And you?
