SGA, Outcast Commentary
Finally finished watching SGA 4x15:
So, I'm doing this commentary as I am watching the episode for the first time. Hopefully, it will be more linear. And I'll also remember what I wanted to say. Goodness my attention span is short. My physics teacher in high school once told me, laughing, "You know, you're really hard to follow sometimes." Ha. Oops.
Yes. Allons-y.
Blades of Glory? Oh no. Why do you think John had him watch that? If he doesn't like figure skating/watching men dancing around on the ice? Maybe for the costumes? I'm pretty sure he likes watching the men dancing around. Perhaps. Although, honestly, I think he would have shown it to Ronon cause he thought it was funny. I haven't seen it. Is it funny?
Dead.
Lab - that percussion music seems very novel to me, in terms of SGA. I really, really really like it. It works very well for the scene. However, the woman in the slinky dress? I know that's what I would wear if I worked in a Nanite lab alone late at night...
Huh. Actually, I really do like that dress...
oops, Skype call. Pause!
Return, hours later...
RE the conversation: Did you see how hopeful John looks when Rodney walks through the door? *melts* Oh! Rodney, you're trying so hard! You're being such a good friend! This is so emotionally awkward, I love it. There was hug tension there, I felt it. Did you feel it? I felt it. Aahaha, "If... you wanna, you know, talk, or..." hee. Hm. Rodney knows he's not fine, but he's not sure what to do about it, especially in such a short amount of time. I love that he requested to go back with him. That just makes me go all melty.
Ronon I love you.
John, do you realize how much your team loves you back? This much: *stretches arms really really wide*
Ok, I just, hang on... ok. I can totally see this happening, "this" being
sheafrotherdon's Outcast tag fic, "Family." Adorable. And so totally what happened.
Dave absolutely thinks John is gay. With Ronon. Sorry, I just can't read that any other way.
John is upset. I want more explicit backstory! JFlan played the casket scene well. Nice.
Stanford. Goodness. Yup. Rich Sheppards. Not surprised. Like the idea of John's father having lots of houses/a business. I liked the idea of him being military, as well, but this is good. I think I actually prefer him as non-Military, it just makes him seem more out of touch with John/John's life.
Nancy... huh. Meh. In trailers, I'm pretty sure they cut the 'In his mind' bit out, and that just makes all the difference in the world: "Well, in his mind, marrying you was probably the best thing I ever did." Ouch. That sort of feeling must have really hurt, for John. So angsty. She had a very low/breathy voice for a bit, as well. I bet they were low-voiced and breathy together.
Ava - that was a good scene as well. Such careful nonchalance, then, bam, intense, sharp, dangerous focus. After she mentions Rodney. Interesting :). That's pretty rotten, to come looking for someone at their father's funeral.
Ok. Long, long break between watching that part and this part. Here we go:
Oh John, so much emotional stuff! And so much talking/mingling! Dave... hm. Well. That was kind of a shitty way to talk to your brother. However, I do understand somewhat where he's coming from. If there was a falling out and John ran off and Dave was left to take care of their Dad on his own, I can understand why he would feel bitter. However, he also strikes me as a little slimy. Maybe. Not gonna make any judgments yet. Also, he doesn't seem to know John very well, at least the John we know from Atlantis.
Ooo! Super-sekrit project. And illegal. Replicators with self-preservation instincts.
Scientist guy, Poole? Is whiny. John is not pleased. But I think he might be happy for the distraction.
Bates!
Ooo, oh, using the girl as a bargaining chip? Nice John. Cold. Do I think he'd actually do it? No. But still, I like watching him interrogate.
That's a pretty gun.
Poole hit Bates! Crazy bastard... I bet he's gonna die. Not Bates, Poole.
Yup.
Oh, god that's hot. Yes chase scene. Yes loud cocking of gun. Oh god, no friendly fire! Ah!! How are they not shooting each other??
John. So secretive. And Nancy doesn't have to put up with it anymore. Nice. Go Nancy! I like her, actually.
Huh. John's most revealing family-emotion talk happens with a person he barely knows. Very safe, a way to get something off your chest a bit without having someone you see often know something about you.
Oh! Interesting look. Something's up with her... she doesn't seem pleased at all that they're breaking the encryption code. She's not telling them something. Does she have a buyer?
DUDE SHE'S A REPLICATOR. Awesome. I didn't see that one coming. I feel kinda dumb.
Replicator with a conscience? Yes to ethical cans of worms. Bring it on, show!
"That's a really good idea." Volcano, please? Molten... neutronium?
Oo! Replicator fight! Lovely.
"Reentry's a bitch." Snerk. Oh. Huh. Wow that looked fake.
What?? No way. They would totally not let her go. I like her dress.
Quoi? Oh! They put her in a VR. Huh. But they don't have nearly enough time to discuss the ethical implications of this... what shall they do? Yup. The question's out there, but what are they going to do with it? They keep bringing the same thing up, most recently with FRAN. I would like some sort of ... I don't know ... actual focus on the question, perhaps, instead of just watching it whiz by? There were questions like this with the wraith, too, but I still feel like they haven't actually been addressed, just sort of tossed out there and dangled, but not built on.
Ending: well, that was nice. Don't really understand how it happened, or what is going to go down with John and Dave, but, fine. I'll buy it.
Overall, nice and action-y, and pretty darn gay. Excellent. Nice plot-twist. Nice music in that lab scene, and nice wardrobe (minus the middle outfits) for the replicator. Those were two very lovely dresses, and I am covetous.
